Guy please helpo me. I have to write an essay of Edwardian, Victorian, 20's, 30's, 50's, WWI and WWII?
I may venture to suggest that, post WWI, and the advent of the emancipation movement for the vote for women, there was a general shift for women away from the constriction of their roles in society, which would include how they were expected to dress. This would have been even further enhanced as an effect post-WWII due to women having experienced even more freedom during work, for example in factories, which led to women wearing more suitable clothing that would have been previously associated with men in the work place (think of those pictures of the factory women in overalls). you might also want to think about how the rationing in the UK for example might have had an effect, corsets traditionally having been reinforced with either bone or steel which would of coirse have been in short supply.
