Is babying your pets and referring to yourself as your pet's "mommy" or "daddy" frowned upon by others?

I don't mind people talking to their pets (even in a baby voice :). But I do think its kinda creepy how they call their pet "children" or "babies" and call themselves their pet's "mom" or "dad".
